Local chickens, also known as indigenous, scavenging, or backyard chickens, are well-adapted to harsh conditions and are typically raised under free-range systems. They are smaller in size compared to commercial breeds and may lay fewer eggs (around 30 per year) due to their tendency to get broody. Local chickens exhibit variations in plumage color, body size, feather patterns, comb types, and shank color, and their production systems are often low-input and low-output.
