Agarwood is a highly valuable, aromatic, dark resinous heartwood produced by Aquilaria trees (primarily A. malaccensis), a tropical evergreen species native to Southeast Asia and Northeast India. Known as the Wood of Gods, it develops in response to fungal infection, turning the light, pale wood into a dense, fragrant, and dark resin. World-renowned for producing Oudh (or Agar), an extremely valuable, dark, and aromatic resinous heartwood. Formed as a defence mechanism against fungal infections, this rare wood is used in luxury perfumery, traditional medicine, and religious incense. Due to high demand and unsustainable harvesting, many Aquilaria species are now considered endangered, leading to widespread cultivation to produce the resin.
