Length :

5.5 meters

1.2 meters

Country Of Origin :

India: Specifically the state of West Bengal, which is a primary hub for linen weaving in the country.

Fabric :

Linen-Silk or Pure Linen: Most Bengal linen sarees are woven with high-quality linen yarns, often blended with a small percentage of silk (Linen-Silk) to provide a subtle sheen and better drape, or kept as Pure 100-count Linen for a matte, organic finish.

Material :

Flax Fibre: Derived from the cellulose fibres of the flax plant (Linum usitatissimum).
Sustainably Sourced: Known for being one of the most eco-friendly fibres, requiring significantly less water and pesticides than cotton.

Speciality :

Handloom Weaving: Most authentic Bengal linens are hand-woven in clusters like Phulia or Shantipur.
Jamdani Motifs: A unique specialty of West Bengal is the Linen Jamdani, where intricate floral or geometric patterns are hand-tucked into the loom using a supplementary weft technique.
Zari Borders: Many variants feature elegant, narrow borders of gold or silver zari that contrast beautifully against the earthy texture of the linen.

Durability :

High Tensile Strength: Linen is one of the strongest natural fibres; it is approximately 2-3 times stronger than cotton.
Longevity: It does not lose its shape easily and actually becomes softer and more lustrous with every wash.

Breathability :

Superior Thermoregulation: Linen possesses high moisture-wicking properties, making it feel cool to the touch.
Air Permeability: The porous nature of the weave allows air to circulate freely, making it the ideal choice for the humid summers of the Indian subcontinent.

Texture :

Organic Crispness: Characterized by a slightly stiff, structured drape and its signature slubs (small, natural irregularities in the yarn).
Tactile Comfort: While initially a bit crisp, the texture transitions into a buttery-soft feel over time.

Cultural & Traditional Significance :

Modern Heritage: While linen is not ancient to Bengal like Muslin, it represents the evolution of the Bengal handloom industry.
The Intellectual Look: In the cultural landscape of Kolkata and beyond, the Linen saree is often associated with a sophisticated, artsy, and understated elegance, favoured by professionals and artists alike.

Care Instruction :

Washing: Hand wash in cold water using a mild liquid detergent. Avoid harsh scrubbing.
Drying: Dry in the shade to prevent colour fading. Do not wring tightly.
Ironing: Linen wrinkles easily (part of its charm). For a crisp look, iron while the fabric is slightly damp using a high-heat setting.
Storage: Store in a cool, dry place; preferably hang it or wrap it in a muslin cloth to allow the fibres to breathe.
