Description :
The Eri Silk Shawl is a premium, eco-friendly accessory from Northeast India, renowned as Ahimsa or Peace Silk because it is harvested without harming the silkworm. Distinguished by its unique matte, wool-like texture, it lacks the typical sheen of silk but offers incredible isothermal warmth, making it a breathable yet cozy wrap for all seasons. This durable, hypoallergenic product is highly practical as it is wrinkle-free, easily washable, and becomes increasingly soft over years of use, serving as both a functional garment and a piece of ethical craftsmanship.

Specification :
Fabric :

Pure Eri Silk: A rich, heavy-duty hand-spun silk that feels more like fine linen or soft wool than traditional slippery silk.
Textural Depth: Features a distinctive matte finish and a warm, rustic hand-feel that is unique to the Endi variety.

Country Of Origin :

India: Authentically produced in the Brahmaputra Valley and the Bodoland Territorial Region of Assam.

Material :

100% Organic Eri Silk: A sustainable protein fibre harvested from the Samia ricini silkworm, which feeds exclusively on castor leaves.

Speciality :

The Vegan Silk: Celebrated worldwide as Ahimsa Silk because the moth is allowed to emerge and fly away before the cocoons are processed.
Thermal Regulation: Renowned for being warm in winter and cool in summer, making it a versatile wrap for transitioning seasons.

Technique Of Design :

Hand-Spun Yarn: The silk is processed using a drop spindle (Takli), resulting in a yarn with natural variations in thickness.
Traditional Floor Looms: Woven by artisans using ancestral hand-weaving techniques that create a dense, protective fabric.
Natural Borders: Often finished with simple, elegant stripes or traditional geometric borders woven into the ends.

Tribe Name :

The Boro (Bodo) Tribe: Handcrafted by Boro women weavers, who are the primary custodians of the Eri silk-rearing and weaving tradition in India.

Cultural & Traditional Significance :

The Blanket of Assam: Traditionally known as an Endi Chador, it is a staple household item in every Assamese and Boro home.
Ritualistic Value: Gifted as a mark of highest respect to elders and guests; it is often considered a spiritual wrap of protection.
Heirloom Status: A high-quality Eri shawl is meant to last a lifetime and is frequently passed down through generations.

Durability :

Exceptional Strength: Often called the Iron Silk because it is incredibly difficult to tear and resists stretching.
Wash-Enhanced: Unlike other luxury fabrics, Eri silk becomes softer, smoother, and more comfortable the more it is used and washed.

Breathability :

High Porosity: The loosely spun fibres allow for excellent air circulation, preventing the stifling feeling often associated with synthetic wraps.
Absorbent: Effectively absorbs moisture, making it comfortable to wear even in the humid climates of Northeast India.

Care Instruction :

Washing: Hand wash in cold water with a gentle silk-specific detergent. Do not bleach or use fabric softeners.
Drying: Spread flat on a clean surface in the shade; never hang it while soaking wet as the weight can distort the shape.
Ironing: Use a medium steam setting. The natural crinkle of the fabric is part of its charm, so heavy pressing is rarely needed.
Storage: Wrap in a muslin or cotton cloth and store with dried neem leaves to protect against moisture and insects.
