Description :
Bodo Eri stoles, often known as Fasra or Aronai, are luxurious, eco-friendly garments crafted from hand spun, peace Eri silk by the indigenous Bodo community in Assam. Known for being warm in winter and cool in summer, they have a soft, wool-like texture with a subtle sheen. These durable, traditionally off-white or cream-colored stoles are highly sustainable, as they are harvested without killing the silkworms. These stoles are not only practical for year-round wear but also carry significant cultural heritage, often worn on both traditional occasions and for modern, sustainable fashion.

Specification :
Country Of Origin :

India: Exclusively produced in the state of Assam.
Regional Hub: Hand-woven in the Bodo regions of Assam, where Eri sericulture is a traditional household activity.

Fabric :

Type: 100% Pure Eri Silk.
Nature: Known as Ahimsa Silk or Peace Silk because the moth is allowed to emerge from the cocoon naturally before processing.

Material :

Primary Thread: Hand-spun Eri silk yarn, characterized by its slightly uneven, wool-like texture.
Extra Weft: High-quality cotton or coloured silk threads used for creating the traditional Butta or Hajur (motifs).

Speciality :

Thermal Properties: Naturally isothermic; it remains cool in the summer and provides exceptional warmth in the winter.
Natural Texture: Unlike the slippery feel of Mulberry silk, Eri Fasra has a matte finish and a soft, rustic feel that softens with every wash.

Technique Of Design :

Hand-Loomed: Woven on traditional throw-shuttle or fly-shuttle wooden looms.
Extra Weft Technique: The intricate patterns (Phul) are hand-inserted during the weaving process, appearing as if they are embroidered onto the fabric.
Natural Dyes: Often utilizes plant-based dyes for the motifs, reflecting an eco-friendly production cycle.

Tribe Name :

Boro (Bodo) Tribe: The largest ethnolinguistic community in Assam, renowned for their ancient mastery over silk weaving and Agor (design) creation.

Durability :

High Longevity: Eri silk is the most durable of all Indian silks. A well-crafted Fasra can last for decades and is often passed down through generations.
Pilling Resistance: Does not easily wear out or lose its structural integrity over time.

Breathability :

Excellent: The porous nature of hand-spun Eri yarn allows for superior air circulation, preventing skin irritation and making it comfortable for year-round use.

Cultural & Traditional Significance :

The Arnai Connection: The Fasra/Arnai is a symbol of respect and is used to honour guests, elders, and dignitaries in Bodo culture.
Bodo Identity: Features traditional motifs like Pahar (mountains), Hajur (hills), or Muigwndwi (cucumber flower), which represent the tribes deep connection to nature.
Sacred Use: Worn during the Bathou Puja and traditional Bagurumba dance performances.

Care Instruction :

Washing: Hand wash separately in cold water using a mild silk-safe detergent or Reetha (soapnut).
Drying: Dry in the shade to prevent the colours from fading; never wring or tumble dry.
Ironing: Iron on a medium-warm setting while the fabric is slightly damp for the best results.
Storage: Store in a dry place wrapped in a clean cotton cloth. Use neem leaves or silica gel to protect from moisture and insects.
