A pure pat mekhela chadar is a traditional two-piece Assamese garment for women, composed of a mekhela (a cylindrical, sarong-like fabric wrapped around the waist with pleats to the right) and a chadar (a long, draped cloth) made from pure mulberry silk. The chadar is tucked into the mekhelas upper portion at one end, then draped over the body. The fabrics kesa paat (unboiled silk) quality gives it a unique texture, and it is often woven with intricate designs and a separate blouse piece.
