Poti For Mekhela Chadar
Code : P11445

The poti is a decorative, woven border strip that is an integral part of a mekhela chadar, the traditional two-piece attire of Assamese women. While the mekhela is the cylindrical skirt and the chadar is the shawl-like drape, the poti is stitched along the edges to provide a finished look and to enhance the garments aesthetic appeal. These strips are often intricately woven with motifs inspired by nature, traditional Assamese jewelry, or other geometric patterns. Poti can feature zari work, contrasting colors, or elaborate designs, and its material is chosen to complement the main fabric of the mekhela chador, which can range from Muga or Pat silk to cotton. This craftsmanship highlights the rich handloom heritage of Assam, with the poti serving as both a functional reinforcement and a vital decorative element.
